Mary Beth Rockwell

As a “chronologically enhanced” exerciser, Mary Beth Rockwell knows that it’s never too late to get fit – the workout bug didn’t bite her until she hit 30. Now exercise serves as MB’s therapy, and she draws on her life experience to know that you can work at getting strong and healthy while being kind to your body and spirit (and still enjoying the occasional bowl of pasta or glass of wine – hey, life’s too short for deprivation!)

I was born in Danbury, CT but moved to Altoona, PA as a small child and spent my formative years there. I’ve lived in my adopted hometown of San Francisco since 1997.

– Since 2012 I’ve been certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and Health Coach. I’ve earned specialty certifications via ACE in Orthopedic Exercise and Senior Fitness. I’m a TRX qualified Gray-rank Suspension Training instructor (Individual, Group, and Sports Medicine). And I have a B.A. in Letters, Arts & Sciences from Penn State University. (We are… Penn State!)

– I love to cook and travel, though I don’t get to do either as much as I’d like. And I love to eat – sometimes more than I should (ohhh, cheese!) – which is one reason I work out so much. Also I was a radio DJ for my entire pre-fitness career – which is one reason I talk so much.

– When I was 30, my mom had a health crisis that didn’t end well – largely because she neglected her health and wellbeing. That was my wake-up call that I needed to clean up my act to avoid the same thing happening to me. I love having a career where I can relay my life experience and help make a positive difference in people’s lives!

My Inspiration: my 70-something personal training client who can do a wicked single-footed front plank – and she’s writing a book, too!
